Digital Death campaign is a fail

The Keep a Child Alive digital death campaign has come to a close.
Pledging to raise $1 million dollars, Seacrest, Kardashian et al, promised not to tweet or post until that goal was met 4 days in, and they had only raised $400k.
Yesterday, they miraculously reached their goal of $1mil
How did they do it? This guy. Stewart Rahr came to the ‘rescue’.
The whole thing is being spun as a success. Kim Kardashian is proud here.
The blogs are picking it up as a success as well. See here, here and here
But some sources are highlighting the failure, like here and here.
Of interesting note: Usher broke his silence on Sunday and got some flack for it.
I’ll bet he wished he’d waited one more day
What went wrong??
-Servers crashed during the first 12 hours
-there were donation minimums AND maximums-the worst mistake IMHO
-people overestimated how important they are on Twitter
-they burned the primary channel to communicate with fans, Twitter! duh
-The celebs that were part of the campaign are well known for getting paid to tweet. So how long could they really stay ‘dead’
My favorite quote:“It’s the worst mismanagement of star power I’ve ever seen in my life,” said a source close to the program.
